Information system EVIGEZ has been developed since 1984 in the Research Institute of Crop Production, Prague as a special user programme for documentation of plant genetic resources in former Czechoslovakia. Since 1992 it has been used by all institutions dealing with plant genetic resources in the Czech Republic (12 institutions located in 15 places). Presently the programme runs under FoxPro environment. Documentation system EVIGEZ consists of three main data sets:

• Passport data
• Characterization and evaluation data (values in scale 1 - 9, estimated on the base of national descriptor lists, which are presently available for 27 crops)
• Documentation of seed store in the Gene Bank

Centrally is the information held in the Gene Bank of RICP Prague and partial information is stored in crop specialized institutions, which co-operate within the Czech “National Programme on Conservation and Utilisation of Plant Genetic Resources and Agro-biodiversity” .
